FAQ

I am very unfit - do I need to get fit before starting Pilates?

No, and this is exactly who beginner reformer is built for. Plenty of people who avoided exercise for years start right here and handle it fine, because your instructor sets the springs to your level.

You do NOT need to be fit first. You get fit by doing it.

I've never done Pilates before - will I be able to keep up?

Yes. Every beginner class is full of total first-timers, so there is nothing to keep up with.

You move at the pace your body is ready for.

I'm not flexible at all - can I still do reformer Pilates?

Yes. Needing to be flexible first is a myth.

Reformer builds your flexibility over time, so you start exactly where you are today.

The reformer machine looks scary - is it hard to use?

It looks trickier than it is. Your instructor will show you exactly what to do and most nervous first-timers say the same thing after - "It's not that scary!"

By your second class it feels normal.

Will I be the worst one in the room?

No. Everyone in the room starts as a beginner, and most people are focused on themselves.

Getting corrections from your instructor is normal, not a sign you are behind. Even people who have done 1,000 classes still get help with their form.

Will the instructor actually help me, or just leave me to it?

Helping you is our job. We'll set you up, talk you through each move, and fix your form so you get it right and stay safe.

That's why we keep our classes small - so we can give you lots of personal attention and guidance where you need it.

Are the classes small, or is it a big crowded room?

Classes are capped at , so you get personal attention and we can monitor your form.

How long is a class?

Classes are 50 minutes. It's time set aside for you, no phone, no to-do list. Just focus on your body, your breath and your movement.

What do I wear to my first class?

Comfortable activewear you can move in. Fitted is better than baggy so your instructor can see your alignment. Bring a water bottle and grip socks if you have them. If you don't have grip socks, no problem we sell them at the studio.

Do I need grip socks, and where do I get them?

Yes, grip socks are required for safety on the reformer. If you do not have a pair you can pick up a pair on Amazon, or purchase a pair at the studio front desk before class.

When should I arrive for my first class?

Aim to arrive 15 minutes early.

Your first time finding a new place, you'll probably underestimate how long it takes to get here. So if you aim to arrive 15 minutes early, you'll probably be her 5 minutes before the start of class. The last thing you want is to feel rushed. Arriving a few minutes early will allow you time to meet your instructor and settle in comfortably.

I have an old injury or a bad back - is Pilates safe for me?

Pilates is low-impact and one of the gentlest ways to move, and many people come to us because of back pain or after an injury. Tell your instructor before class and we will modify the moves for you. If you have a serious condition, check with your doctor first.

I'm pregnant or recently had a baby - can I join?

Yes you can join! But please tell us before you attend your first class so we can look after you safely and guide you to the most appropriate starting class.

Am I too old for this?

No. Pilates is low-impact and suits every age. People in their 60s and 70s start as beginners here and get stronger, with better balance and posture. Pilates meets your body where it is. In fact it's the perfect form of exercise that builds strength, flexibility and balance whilst being gentle on your joints. You are NOT old to start Pilates!

Is it a proper workout - will I even feel it?

Yes. Pilates works your muscles slowly and under control, so even fit people feel it! This is not a sweaty workout - but you WILL you will feel it working in all the right places.

Will this actually tone me up and make me stronger?

Yes, that is what it is built for. Consistent Pilates work builds long, lean strength and tones your whole body. It's why so many people get hooked - they love the results!

How soon will I see results?

Most people feel stronger and more aligned after their very first class. Within a few weeks of coming regularly you'll start to notice visible differences in your tone and posture.

Will I be really sore after?

You might feel it a day or two after your first class, in muscles you have not used much. That discomfort is normal and settles quickly as your body adjusts.

How often should I come as a beginner?

You'll definitely see progress even with one regular class per week.

2 to 3 classes a week is the sweet spot for long-term progress.

But the best routine is the one you can stick with long-term. And if once a week is that "stick with it" sweet spot for you, then that's the best amount!

Is it worth the money?

People ask this, then after a class or two they realize it's an investment in themselves and make room for it. The intro lets you feel the benefit for yourself, at a fraction of the normal class price, before you spend more.

What exactly do I get in the intro, and what happens after?

The New Client Intro - 3 Classes $75 is the perfect way to start and explore your new fitness routine. During your intro, we'll talk you through your best value option to continue based on how often you want to attend ongoing.

Do my intro classes expire?

Your intro is valid for 2 weeks from your first class.

What if I start and it's not for me?

That's what the intro is for - so you can try Pilates properly and see if it's for you. You come, you try it, and you decide from there. But from past experience - you're going to love it.

Do classes get booked out - will I get a spot?

On average we keep our classes 75% full so there's space available for most classes. But of course some classes do fully book in advance - we have a waitlist feature for this that's really easy to use. On average you'll probably get into about 90% of your preferred times.
